Getting Technical, with Laura Waldman, Operations Manager

Many of us are lucky enough to have never thought much about where the basic things in our lives come from. We turn on the faucet and water comes out. We go to the supermarket and have endless options. We flip a switch and the lights come on. Behind that switch is a world that tends to stay invisible. It is a world of laborers, engineers, technicians, and drivers; of dams, coal mines, nuclear reactors, oil fields, gas lines, and incinerators. Increasingly, it is a world that includes scaled-up solar power and wind. Even in those cases, the energy being produced is out of sight and mind for its users. Read More

SunBlue Energy. Why not call us first?

We’ll be there to fix your install anyway.

I originally said this as a joke, because of the number of calls we receive from customers who have existing systems that were originally installed by other solar companies. Not only is SunBlue Energy the highest-rated solar installer in Westchester, NY, but we are also called on again and again to service other companies’ systems. We assist local village halls, schools, homeowners and commercial clients by upgrading or adding modules to existing systems. Read More

What It Means To Go Green With Solar PanelsMost homeowners already know that solar panel installation can lower their energy bills, but what is the environmental impact of using solar energy, and why was 2015 yet another record-breaking year for solar panel installation? At SunBlue, we share a conviction that not only will the installation of solar panels improve the lives of our clients, but every installation is another step closer to a brighter future.

Commercial Rooftop Solar Panel Installation in NYC

As those of us who have been active in the solar industry for some time will tell you (without prompting), now is the best time to go solar (and always has been). How can this possibly be true?

Why Now is the Best Time to Go Solar

If (like me) you don’t happen to have a fully functioning time machine, now will continue to be the best time to go solar: you can’t go back to the past and go solar then anymore. Rebates were higher 2 years ago or even 10 years ago, so you could have gotten more of your solar system paid for by someone else. But, guess what? Solar panels were more expensive then too, so those two facts more or less cancel each other out. If you had gone solar years ago, you likely would have paid more over all for your system, but you also would have been saving on your electric bills in the meantime. In any case, that option is no longer available (unless you get that time machine working). Read More

Types of Solar Panels

A solar panel receives energy from the sun and transfers the energy to a controller inside the solar energy system, where the energy is converted into electricity. A solar panel is made of photovoltaic cells in different sizes depending on the rating of each panel. There are three basic types of solar panels for a solar energy system.

How Do Solar Panels Work ?

Solar panels, an alternative to traditional electricity generation methods, are becoming more popular. Solar panels generate power using solar energy.

  • Solar panels comprise smaller units called photovoltaic cells. These cells when linked together make up a solar panel. Photovoltaic cells are generally made of two slices of silicon.
  • Photovoltaic cells need to establish an electric field. In the top layer of silicon, phosphorus is placed, to create a negative charge. Boron is placed into the bottom layer, which will result in a positive charge. This creates an electric field at the junction between the silicon layers.
  • When sunlight touches an electron, it will be pushed out of the silicon junction by the electric field.
  • These electrons are converted into usable power.
